What is the history of gachapon capsule toys in Japan, and how long have they been so popular there?

Question: I am article a report for school, and I need the historical aspects of my text. I don't even know what DECADE gachapon became popular to collect in Japan. I don't have knowledge of the specifics of what got it popular in Japan WHEN it did. I have already researched things

Answer: Gachapon was imported to Japan in 1965. But the side does not say anything about why it became popular. Kids just liked it.
